{"id":43075,"date":"2013-11-19T16:26:37","date_gmt":"2013-11-19T16:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staging.startups.co.uk\/young-guns\/?p=43075"},"modified":"2013-11-19T16:26:37","modified_gmt":"2013-11-19T16:26:37","slug":"bboxx-named-energy-excellence-winner-energy-institute-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.startups.co.uk\/young-guns\/bboxx-named-energy-excellence-winner-energy-institute-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"BBOXX named Energy Excellence winner at the Energy Institute awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Clean energy company BBOXX, co-founded by 2011 Young Guns&rsquo; Christopher Baker-Brian and Mansoor Mohammad Hamayun, has been crowned winner of the Energy Excellence Award at the annual Energy Institute (EI) awards, beating five competitors for the title.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2010 as a spin-off from equinox, a charity at Imperial College London, BBOXX develops and distributes solar-powered battery packs and solar panels to off-grid locations across the developing world.<\/p>\n<p>Its work was recognised by the EI awards, which celebrates energy businesses that set new standards of excellence and innovation, for its originality, application and the impact and benefits to the end user.<\/p>\n<p>The award comes after the socially-minded business announced it has supplied over 30,000 households with sustainable electricity and follows the recent growth of its franchise model with new franchises in Uganda, Kenya, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Senegal and Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the win, BBOXX co-founder and CTO Baker-Brian said:<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;BBOXX was set up to help dissolve the lack of energy access in the developing world.
